If you’re looking to boost your online presence and grow your business, you probably already know you should be making more videos. After all, marketers who use video have been found to grow revenue 49% faster than those who don’t — and consumers are 39% more likely to share content if it’s delivered through video. That’s why we designed our Video Creator, a video-creation tool that enables easy-peasy video editing, no matter your skill level, with simple-to-customize templates. But if you’re just getting started (or need a little refresher), you might be wondering just how to make a video in Vimeo. We got you.

The good news is, it’s super simple to make beautiful, impactful videos with little to no experience. Vimeo’s Video Creator is the perfect tool to help you make and scale video content: either by utilizing the stock library; repurposing videos already uploaded to your Vimeo account; making seamless, text-based videos; or uploading your own media from your camera roll, Google photos, or computer. Let’s get into it.

How do I access Vimeo’s Video Creator?

The Video Creator is available to anyone with a Vimeo account, but to unlock most features, you must have a Vimeo Pro account or above. It is available across web, iOS, and Android through the Vimeo mobile app.

But don’t forget – when you sign up for a Pro account, you’re not just getting Vimeo’s Video Creator tools. You’re also accessing Vimeo’s wide range of end-to-end tools, including review tools, unlisted link sharing, increased video storagevideo analytics, and more.

How do I create a video on Vimeo?

To start making your video, simply download the Vimeo mobile app or head to the video maker via your desktop to start customizing. You can access your videos interchangeably between the mobile app and the web.

1. Pick a video template (or start from scratch)

Vimeo Create template library interface

You can access hundreds of video templates designed for countless use cases in our video maker. From event announcements to eCommerce-ready templates, simply enter your query into the search bar at the top of the page or select a category from the top bar to locate video templates specific to your needs.

Not sure what you want to make yet? Scroll through our massive library for inspiration, then select a video to make once you’ve found the one you love.

Start creating your video with a screen recording

Another option for creating your masterpiece is integrating a screen recording into your video. With our Vimeo Record screen recorder tool, you can begin the video making process with a crystal clear recording of your desktop screen – great for making training videos, tutorials, and more!

A quick note: if you’re feeling crafty, you can also start making your video without a template by tapping “Start from scratch.” All you need to do is add photos or videos of your own (or pull from the stock library), then select your video style, music, ratio, and length. Hit “Save,” and sit back, relax, and let our handy-dandy AI put your video together.

2. Customize your video

This is the fun part. Once you’ve selected your template, you can start customizing! We offer a huge library of color palettes and fonts, as well as chic sticker overlays to make content that perfectly complements your brand.

Once you’ve got the look you want, you can change the ratio of the video, depending on where you’re planning to share it — opt for square if you’re placing it in your Instagram feed, portrait to make a polished Instagram story card, or landscape for Facebook and LinkedIn. This is your time to change the text of the video however you’d like, experiment with music from our curated music library, or select “no music” if you want to cut the audio track entirely.

You can check out the full list of customizations available to you here.

3. Save & preview

Once you’ve finished customizing, simply tap the “Save & preview” button in the upper right corner to watch a preview of your video. Want to make some tweaks? Tap “Edit,” and the tool will take you right back to the edit page where you can change it up to your heart’s content.

If you’re happy with your video, simply click “Save & share.” You’re almost done!

4. Share your video

Now it’s time to nail the distribution. You can easily export your masterpiece by tapping “Download” in the bottom right corner, but if you made your video specifically for social, you’re gonna want to listen up.

Vimeo allows you to publish your video directly to social, no downloading or uploading required. Just select the social channel where you’d like to share your video from the “Distribution” menu next to your video. (If you haven’t linked your accounts, you’ll be prompted to do so. It only takes a second!)

You can also include interaction tools (hello, email capture form!) or confidentially share your video for review using an unlisted link. Once you’ve put your video out into the world, don’t forget to check out your video’s analytics. Tracking performance can help you assess your video’s success and continue to hone your marketing efforts. Now get out there and make a video!
