Can you record a Webex meeting?

Yes, you can record a Webex meeting. Depending on your editing, storage, and accessibility needs, there are multiple options for recording Webex meetings.

A quick primer on meeting recordings

Recording meetings can get complex as different video conferencing tools have different steps. Access to recordings can also change based on whether plans are paid or free. Meeting hosts, presenters, and guests all have different permissions when it comes to who can record video meetings.

Hunting for the recording’s download that’s buried among your other desktop items also eats into valuable time.

If you plan on recording Webex meetings regularly, bookmark this page, and share it with your coworkers so you can review the steps whenever you need.

Or simplify your life by using Vimeo’s screen recorder. The free Chrome extension lets you record all video meetings, whether they’re on Webex, Zoom, Google Meet, Skype, or something else.

Can you record a Webex meeting if you’re not a host?

To use the Webex recorder during meetings, you must be a host, alternate host, or presenter.

If you’re not the host or alternate host, you can record meetings if the host makes you a presenter.

But, the simplest way to record Webex meetings is to use a third-party screen recording tool like Vimeo recorder. There are no limits on which participants can use third-party screen recording apps like Vimeo to record Webex meetings.

So whether you’re a host, participant, or presenter, you can use the free Google Chrome extension to record a meeting. Say goodbye to scrambled meeting notes for good!

Pro tip: Always ask other participants for permission before starting your recording.

How to record a Webex meeting

Hosts and co-hosts can record meetings on their computers. First, they need their site administrator to enable local recording for the site.

Currently, recording a Webex meeting from a computer is only available on the free Webex desktop app. If you start a meeting from a device using a web app like a Chromebook, you can’t record it.

Note: To record as a co-host, you need Webex version 42.11 version and later.

Recordings include participant audio, video, and anything shared during the meeting.

Note: Webex recordings don’t include panels, such as the chat panel, participants panel, transcripts, or any files you share using Share File. You can’t choose a recording layout, either.

Here’s a step-by-step guide on recording Webex meetings within the app:

  1. Click Record and choose the option for your computer. If you can’t find the option on your computer, it may be disabled. Ask your Webex site administrator for access.
  2. If you want audio in your recording, click Computer audio as the audio option. If you connected to audio using a different option, like an external headset, you can still record without sound. If you click Call me or Call in, the audio doesn’t record.
  3. Click Record. Click Record and then select Pause and Resume to keep a single recording.
  4. Select Stop when the meeting ends.

Pro tip: For meetings or live events that last more than an hour, you can use Vimeo’s chapters feature to bookmark key points in the recording. It’ll make for an easier experience when viewers rewatch the recording.

Where do my Webex recordings go?

When the meeting ends, the Webex recording will save to your computer as an MP4 file by default. This is the same regardless of whether you have a paid or free account.

Paid plan users also have the option of saving their Webex recordings to the cloud.

In Windows, Webex recordings automatically save to the Documents folder in My Computer.

In Mac, Webex recordings save to the Home folder, which is accessible through the Finder function.

It’s a good idea to find the recording file and change the name right after download. Choose a memorable and easy-to-search name, like the date and name of the recording.

Saving Webex recordings with Vimeo

The Vimeo app for Webex lets you backup your Webex cloud directly in your Vimeo account. That means no more time wasted downloading it to your computer than logging into Vimeo to upload. When your recording is on Vimeo, you get access to our player, privacy settings, collaboration tools, and much more.

To set up the Vimeo app for Webex, you need a Vimeo account and access to the Webex Business tier or higher (Webex doesn’t offer cloud storage for meeting recordings on the Basic tier.)

Following installation and setup, you’ll see your Webex Recordings folder. In your next Webex meeting, select Record to cloud. The cloud recording will then automatically transcode and upload to your connected Vimeo account when your meeting ends.

In your Webex Recordings Folder on Vimeo, you can view the video and access all our collaboration tools.

How to record a Webex meeting on Vimeo

Webex is a powerful tool to help teams share information, collaborate, and give feedback in real-time. But once the meeting’s over, insights or follow-ups may be siloed in hasty meeting notes or side DMs, making the information difficult to retain and use over time.

The Vimeo App for Webex gives teams the ability to back up Webex cloud recordings directly in a Vimeo account. This means no more downloading to your computer, then logging into Vimeo to upload. Once your recording is on Vimeo, you’ll have access to our player, text-based editing, collaboration tools, customizable privacy, embed settings, and much more.

1. Install the Vimeo App for Webex

To set up the Vimeo app for Webex, you’ll need to have an account on Vimeo and have a Webex Business tier or higher; Webex does not offer cloud storage for meeting recordings on the Basic tier.

2. Configure your Webex settings

Follow the steps in the setup flow, accept the terms, and then you’ll see the installation confirmation page. After installation success, you’ll land on your Webex Recordings folder (or assigned folder during installation). Once installed, you can select “Record to cloud” on your Webex meeting. This cloud recording will transcode and upload to your connected Vimeo account after your meeting recording ends.

3. Record your Webex meeting

After your video finishes transcoding, it will appear in the Webex Recordings Folder on Vimeo, where you’ll be able to access all our tools for sharing and collaboration.

4. Share and collaborate

Once the upload is complete, you can share the Vimeo link with your team members, clients, or anyone else you want to collaborate with. Using Vimeo’s online video editor, add chapter your videos to make it easier to organize content and jump to the information you need. Vimeo provides easy sharing options, allowing you to send the link directly or embed the video on a website or blog

Contribute to meetings even when you can’t be there

Vimeo’s Review feature lets you respond to comments and add time-stamped notes right inside the video. That’s right, say goodbye to endless feedback loops and buried email threads.
